Building a Deaf Empowered Future – Rashidah’s Story

Here’s Rashidah’s story of family, love, sacrifice and hope

Watch a one minute video of Rashidah and her Family!

My name is Rashidah, and I am Deaf. I am 29 years old this year. Our father passed away from cancer in 2007. I was in Secondary 3 and youngest brother Zainul, who is Deaf like me, was only two years old then. My two sisters, Huda and Syafiqah were still in school. My mother suddenly became the sole breadwinner to a family of four young children.

I started working at 22 years of age to help ease my mom’s financial burden and am currently working in the F&B industry. My greatest satisfaction in life is to be able to provide for my family.

We are thankful for the immense support our family has received from The Singapore Association for the Deaf (SADeaf). SADeaf kept in contact with us during our most difficult period and is always ready to offer us financial aid and social support such as daily essentials and a tuition programme for my brother and I. They also included us in their educational and social events.

Please donate generously to empower and inspire future generations in the Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing and Deafblind community so that they too can see light at the end of the tunnel, and beneficiaries who have been receiving aid now may one day be able to pay it forward. Your sustained giving can help them regain their footing and integrate with society.
