Deaf Achievers Awards 2020

Nominations are now open for the *Deaf Achievers Awards 2020!
*deaf denotes persons with different degree of hearing loss

Award Categories:

1. Outstanding Deaf Student
2. Outstanding Deaf Sportsman/Sportswoman
3. Special Talent

Prizes

All winners will receive cash voucher, a plaque and a certificate.

Selection Process

The nominations will be reviewed by independent Award Vetting Panel comprising a representative from SADeaf, the Deaf Community, reputable organizations in Singapore and ex-awardees. Recommendations of the Award Vetting Panel will be submitted to the Executive Council of SADeaf for approval. Once officially approved, it will be deemed final and no further objections will be entertained.

Shortlisted nominees may be required to attend an interview.

1. Outstanding Deaf Student

The Outstanding Deaf Student Awards are conferred annually by The Singapore Association for the Deaf (SADeaf) to recognise the achievements of deaf individuals in academic, vocational and tertiary education.

Categories

1. Primary Education
2. Secondary Education
3. Vocational Education
4. Post-Secondary and Tertiary Education (Junior Colleges, Institute of Technical Education, Polytechnics and
   Universities)

Eligibility

1. The nominee must be a registered client of SADeaf.
2. The nominee must be a full-time student in a Primary school, Secondary school, Vocational Institute/ Training Centre or Tertiary Institution in Singapore or overseas.
3. Nominations must be supported by the performance of the previous academic year:
   • For Primary and Secondary Schools, this refers to the period as from January to December 2018.
   • For Polytechnics and others, the academic year varies, hence this is referred to the recent/previous academic term.
4. The nominee need not be the top students. An average student who has shown significant improvement will be considered.
5. Evidence of active participation in co-curricular activities, community service, and leadership qualities will earn extra credits.
6. Only one “Outstanding Deaf Student Award” will be conferred to each category every year.

2. Outstanding Deaf Sportsman/Sportswoman

The Outstanding Deaf Sportsman / Sportswoman Awards are conferred annually by The Singapore Association for the Deaf (SADeaf) to recognise the achievements of the deaf individuals in the sports arena.

Eligibility

1. The nominee must be a registered client of SADeaf.
2. The nominee must have an outstanding track record(s) in sports last year. These can be evidenced by awards obtained, records of activities denoting leadership qualities or good sportsmanship.
3. Only one “Outstanding Deaf Sportsman Award” and one “Outstanding Deaf Sportswoman Award” will be conferred every year.

3. Special Talent

The Special Talent Award is conferred annually by SADeaf to recognise a deaf individual who has demonstrated exceptional achievements, that no other deaf has ever done or dared to do, and that he/she does not fit in any other award category.

Eligibility

1. The nominee must be a registered client of SADeaf.
2. The nominee must have an outstanding track record(s) in non-academic and non-sport activities. These should be evidenced by awards obtained, proven record of leadership, etc.
3. Previous year awardee will not qualify.
4. Only one nominee will be conferred the “Outstanding Special Talent” award.
