Singapore Sign Language Week

Greetings from the Singapore Association for the Deaf (SADeaf).

The International Week of the Deaf (IWD) is an initiative of the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) and it was first launched in 1958 in Rome, Italy. Since then, it is celebrated annually by the global deaf community.

This year, the IWD will take place on 24-29 September 2018 under the theme “With Sign Language, Everyone is Included!” in which the theme is shared with the International Day of Sign Languages (IDSL) for the first time. Members of the International Deaf Community gather together during this time to promote the status of sign languages and the rights of deaf people.

Besides the official launch of the IWD on Saturday, 15 September 2018; SADeaf is organising a fringe event – Singapore Sign Language Week 2018 to promote greater awareness of our Deaf and Hard-of-hearing community.
